If you are moving to Sacramento to goQuite BrightArt & Design Department
If you are moving to Sacramento to go here: the campus itself is nice, lots of tress and shade and squirrels, decent facilities, good teachers, etc. The surounding area is not so nice. I live about 30 mins away in the suburbs because it's nicer, and because living any place decent in the downtown/trendy area is expensive. I think I'm getting a good education for the money I am spending. The photography program has two wonderful full time professors and a couple great part timers. I joined the school newspaper (one of the best four-year college papers in California, and one of the best in the NATION for our website) and made tons of new friends my first semester here. Because of my participation in the newspaper I have gotten to know a couple of my professors pretty well, and I will end up with some good letters of recommendation when I apply to grad school. For the most part the teachers and students are helpful and friendly. Average to poor service from admissions and records and financial services. College is what you make out of it! I recommend this school if your major/program is one of the ones the school is becoming known for. Business, photography, graphic design, education, journalism, government/political science, etc. Pick the school with the best teachers/facilities/classes in YOUR MAJOR!

Question
Classes are terribly overcrowded and, at least inQuite BrightPolitical Science
Classes are terribly overcrowded and, at least in the Government department, there are few class sections offered even for required major classes. This is because the school president, Alexander Gonzalez slashed funding from Academic Affairs. Gonzalez touts his "Destination 2010" program of making the school a "destination campus for the West"...hahaha!! He is trying to boost enrollment by raising and spending millions of dollars on peripheral school projects such as a new Recreation and Wellness Center which will probably be pretty cool, but he doesn't put money into instruction. Furthermore, he isn't building any more classrooms, but wants enrollment to skyrocket.

Overcrowding will only get worse becuase there isn't enough space to put more students and the school doesn't want to have to hire (and pay) more professors. Don't believe the 21 to 1 student-teacher ration, that is a myth. The faculty are great and there are really smart students here, but it is a working class, commuter school. The vast majority of students work at least part-time and don't have the time or energy to devote a good amount of time to school work like students at the UCs. Thus, G.P.A.s are low, student apathy (about everything) is high (most students don't feel the need to protest their student fees being raised even though it has happened 5 times in 6 years) and people generally don't care about their world. There is no community on campus, people just want to get in and get out. It's unfortunate, but we are victims of the higher education hiearchy in California, the CSU system, budget cuts and a school president that wants to privatize everything and is turning the school into a corporation.

Question
Administration at this school is a JOKE.Quite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
Administration at this school is a JOKE. The red tape and the hoops you have to jump through to get anything done is UNBELIEVABLE. All of the administration departments (admissions, advisory, financial aid, etc.) all use the same networked software and all see the same information when they pull up a file, yet they will still insist on you going to a different department to "verify" the information (print it out). DEADLINES for paperwork are absurdly early, often close to a year in advance (two semesters). I have moved a lot due to business and work, this is my 3rd university I have attended in 3 states, I regret ever coming to CSU Sacramento. If you do not already live in the immediate vicinity of the school, DO NOT APPLY TO CSUS. It astonishes me how many of my friends have left this school to attend another (UC Davis, Reno, even community colleges) simply because they couldn't stand how this university is run.
