Positive Negative Neutral Advice
Sacramento State is a great school.Quite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
Sacramento State is a great school. I gave negative ratings on facilities because if you go there, you will see some classrooms and lecture halls are so incredibly trashed and uncared for, it is hard to believe we pay $4000 a semester for them. The food on campus is a very large variety, how ever it is SO EXPENSIVE. For instance, Panda Express and Burger King will charge higher prices than they would at a normal franchise - be forewarned! The dorms are ridiculously old & out of date also. Two of the buildings are "temp" buildings from the 1970s, and have yet to be demolished, while the other three are from the 1960s, and are just so RUN DOWN. They keep saying they will build new housing facilities, but they don't. The dorm life sort of sucks too. There's no "party" or even "college" atmosphere there, it's just a couple thousand students living on campus, being babied by the RAs. The DC isn't too bad, they just completely remodeled it, and it's gotten a lot better my two years there. Just a warning to anyone considering Sac State (or any CSU), you WILL NOT graduate in 4 years. Sac State does NOT offer enough classes (or make the classes big enough) to accommodate all of its students. To add insult to injury, they instated a 12 unit cap also, which makes it virtually impossible to graduate on time. No classes, small classes, and unit caps make it IMPOSSIBLE. GOOD LUCK.

Question
I've had some really good professors, with a few dBrightGeography and Geosciences
I've had some really good professors, with a few disgruntled unhappy ones as well. The budget cuts and tuition hikes 1-2 times a semester have created an ominous, dark cloud over the campus. People try to pretend everything is OK, but overall the school has a "Titanic" feel to it and consequently, students are just trying to get through as fast as possible. Dealing with administration issues is usually tense, and the student is often viewed with contempt. There is a charge for everything, sometimes twice for the same thing...like "applying for graduation" over a year ahead, and then another charge if the classes are unavailable and you need to change your graduation date. Students are treated like high school students. Ancillary services like career counseling are very hit and miss, with arrogant students manning the reception desk there attempt to dissuade students from seeking help on this front or seeing an adult career counselor...very much an "I'm in, you're out!" attitude. The system is broken and will most likely worsen. I had a much better experience in the Community College arena

Question
The University system is geared to accommodate aAverageSocial Work
The University system is geared to accommodate a variety of students with varying degrees of educational backgrounds. There were very few exams given in this program which I believe does the student a disservice because they are not really challenged in their understanding of the topic being taught.

Some of the professors are respectful of the diverse population in the program and do not incooperative their personal agenda into the the classroom lectures. They taught their subject, which is what their paid to do. A few professors used the classroom as their personal platform to influence their (mostly) young students. If social work is your passion then by all means do not let the negativity of a few professors affect your future. Keep on and finish and take what material you can use and leave the rest, especially the insults against people of faith and conservative, believe me they are not always both. I am, but others are not and that is their right. Become a social worker because it is your passion!
