So, I transferred and have ended up switchingBrightUndecided
So, I transferred and have ended up switching my major, but not because of anything that the school did.

First off, I just want to say that, having already done the four year thing for a year and a half, this school is MUCH more challenging/rigorous than the other school, but I am learning so much more/becoming more independent everyday!

It is DEFINITELY true that they really don't spoon-feed you at all. In fact, they basically just dump a whole amount of platters on you, and it's up to you to sort out the info (much less overwhelming if you have a study buddy from the class!)

There is so much to do here and so much to get involved in that it's just terrific. It's the most activist-oriented, politically charged campus I have been to yet.

The one thing I have to complain about is meal plans. They stink! Lol. And midterms. They stink too. They're really hard.

Other than that, don't go walking around by yourself at 3am on telegraph, and you'll be fine. It's a very challenging school, but I'm starting to see myself change as a result and am becoming much more efficient as a studier too! (that's a bit of a lie...:)) Choose Cal! :) You won't regret it, just put yourself out there and you can make yourself happy here, contrary to popular belief!

Question
I'm a transfer into the English department andQuite BrightEnglish
I'm a transfer into the English department and so far I love it here. All my classes are taught by brilliant and friendly professors (the only teacher I wouldn't rave about is teaching a crossover class from Slavic Studies so the Eng. Dept. can hardly be blamed). The city of Berkeley is pretty awesome as well, and obviously the Bay area in general has a lot to offer. To any transfers wavering between UCLA and Cal, I had a hell of a time choosing but don't regret my choice at all!

Question
It's Berkeley.Quite BrightOther
It's Berkeley. I'm sure you've heard of it. Obviously, it's a great school academically, and you're going to get an exceptional education for what you're paying (at least you could when I was there, with fee hikes this is not quite as true anymore). However, if you want an education that will help prepare you for an occupation, you're probably better off somewhere else. I am quite frustrated with the lack of practical application in any of the courses. Everything at Berkeley is theoretical, and that makes it hard to develop job skills. And you would think that having a degree from such a high ranking school would help you get a job, but at least in this economy, having an undergraduate degree from Berkeley isn't likely to help you. On the other hand, I definitely learned how to think and figure things out, and that is something that employers look for. So really, it just depends on what you want to do, but if you want to go practical, and you're sure about what you want to do, go somewhere that will prepare you better.
