You gotta be really responsible and organized to do wellBrightCivil Engineering
You gotta be really responsible and organized to do well here! If you're a passive person, you've got to be a genius to do well. If you're not a genius, seek help when you need it! Don't be too shy to talk to your professor. You may feel like a number at first, perhaps you are one, but just remember that you came to Berkeley for a reason, so use your opportunity to learn as much as you possibly can from the brightest professors in the world while you've got the chance!

There's an awesome city life, but very little time to enjoy it. And there's oh so much food! And the view is spectacular. If you're from out-of-state, you'll be amazed! Just imagine being able to see both the Golden Gate Bride and the Bay Bridge in one view while on campus! Oh and for those of you people who are out-of-staters and international students, I feel for you, especially if you can barely afford going to Berkeley. Just remember the amazing research facilities Berkeley offers and be happy with your decision to go Berkeley! You won't regret your decision to come here.

Berkeley is the quintessential university.
A few one-liners:

If you're bored with Berkeley, you're bored with life.
If you can't find what you're looking for here, then it doesn't exist. So you obviously must invent it. (It's a top 3 research institution).

Okay, so those were just two.
People at Berkeley care about what they do. The one thing you won't find at Berkeley is indifference or apathy. You WILL find what you're looking for here--you just have to go find it. There are endless options. Don't understimate the importance of this.

Oh yeah, a few words about statistics.
The various demographics really DO interact. Sure, there are cliques, but what's important is that a few thousand people really make the jump, and they do.

So the average SAT is like a 1340 and the range is probably a 1260 to a 1460. It's not terribly high, right? But keep in mind that there are 23,000 undergraduates. That's the size of three East Coast private universities. So a quarter of those 23,000 got above a 1460. So between seven or eight thousand... got above a 1460. Keep in mind, then, that even in something like standardized tests, Berkeley spans the gamut.

This place gives you independence and lets you contribute to the energy that makes it one of the most important, intimidating and controversial tertiary institutions in the world. Have a blast. But yeah, this isn't UCSB, UCLA or UMiami when it comes to the dating scene. Not that there aren't babes, but that isn't the reason you should come to Berkeley.
