When coming to Berkeley, don't believe the hype.Quite BrightFine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc
When coming to Berkeley, don't believe the hype. The place gives an excellent education, but other than that -- this is not the college experience. If you are looking for "college", go somewhere else. Cal has every scholastic opportunity avaliable -- but very few outlets outside of academics or politics.

Question
UC Berkeley is a great school with aOther
UC Berkeley is a great school with a lot of opportunities, but you really have to be the kind of person willing to go out and make it happen. For many it is sink or swim. I personally ended up swimming, and it has changed my life for the better. I think that as good an experience as I had at UC Berkeley there was no concern placed on transitioning out immediately into the "real world" (other than the sink or swim experience gained). But I feel that this is probably true across the board at all colleges. It is the state of university level education in our country.

Awesome school.Super BrilliantCultures/Civilization
Awesome school. Admittedly private schools may offer more resources, such as quicker times to meet with advisors and stuff like administrative stuff... but nothing beats Berkeley. You will miss it when you leave. This I guarantee. Enjoy it while you can, don't fall back on grades too much. Berkeley has its share of brilliant people. It is the best place for intellectual stimulation and basically is the best university in the world. Graduate students who have been both at Harvard and Berkeley say they like berkeley much better.
