Four people in my immediate family attended UCD.
Four people in my immediate family attended UCD. This year, another child is attending U.C. Santa Cruz. The difference between Santa Cruz and UCD is like night and day. Santa Cruz seems to have everything together and UCD does not. The Administration at UCD acts like it does not care and the school moves forward based on past glories. UCD used to be a much better school than it is today.

This year, UCD enrolled 20% more freshman than they anticipated. There is no way the school will be able to handle the influx of new students. UCD simply does not have the management skills to prepare for the change. This is going to be a real mess. The town of Davis has also changed - it used to be a peaceful college town. Now, according to police reports, gangs are taking over the comunity. Additionally, a large segment of the Davis population has an anti student bias. Many people, including landlords and stores, are out to take advantage of the student population. This is not the same town I knew 30 years ago.

UC Davis provides everything you could possible want in terms of college experience. From the new recreation facility to D1 sports for free, a student can become involved in a multitude of activities. The cities populations is 63,000 and there are about 29,000 students attending the University. It is a great college town. UC Davis offers a student a great college life, but it is up to the student to take advantage of it.

Question
Although I have been away from Davis forOther
Although I have been away from Davis for a while, I believe my comments are still relevant. I studied East Asian Studies at UCD and given that this is what I do for a living I can confidently assess that my education at UCD was excellent. I also enjoyed the atmosphere at UCD. It had the right balance of friendliness & a solid work ethic, but not cut-throat competitiveness. The students at times seemed pretty unambitious but they were nice, & niceness matters in this world. It was a little PC at the time but I'd rather deal with an annoying young liberal than a annoying young conservative. The university has gone downhill in the rankings since I graduated (as have most of the UCs), which is depressing. It's still a good deal for the money, however.
