To be fair, I got into both BerkeleyQuite BrightChemistry
To be fair, I got into both Berkeley and UCLA. I wanted to go to UCLA, but I was terrifically irresponsible and my parents forced me to go to Davis (if you don't go to Davis, we won't pay.) Fine. I got over it (eventually.) Plus, I didn't want to pay, so screw it.

Having grown up in the Sacramento area, I wasn't happy about having to stay put. Freshman year sucked, I didn't like the dorms, and everybody studied too much. I thought college was a big party scene---not here. I adjusted my expectations and got to work. Study Study Study. Science Science Science. It's been about 15 years since I left Davis, and I'm actually relieved how it worked out. I didn't have a particularly fun experience, but I really did develop some skills that put me above and ahead of others in my field. Of course, I wanted to party and have sex with a lot of strange women, instead I honed my skills.

Question
If you're coming to Davis to get aNot so brightArt & Design Department
If you're coming to Davis to get a good education you come to the right place. If you're here to have fun, this is not the right place. All the professors i have encounter are friendly and helpful. They're not here for money, they teach because they like teaching. So you'll get people who care. Be prepared to read alot. The community college system did not prepare me for the amount of reading that is required at UC system. YOu will definatly learn to write, even if you suck at it. They will force you to write and read and write and read even if it's a non-writing or reading related class. The school wants students to be well rounded so they have you take courses outside your major, so don't expect to steam line through your major. Also be prepared to wait a few quarters to get the class you want. Too many students not enough spaces. Once you're in the classes and if you're a design major, you'll get alot more attention. The design major has small classes so you'll get one-one time. The design teachers stress design proccess and continually stress feedback. Whether you want it or not they'll give it. They want to you be better so they always have you refine. They are also knowledgable. Most are experts in there field so they share with you all their experiences to help you understand how you can apply theory to real life.

Question
As an undergraduate, I left a scathing reviewEconomics
As an undergraduate, I left a scathing review of UCD that I would now like to revise.
UC Davis is a fine institution, but it is not a fit for everyone. For me, the fit was actually pretty bad, but I got a lot of good things out of my experience there. The kids who choose to attend UCD tend to be decent people - generally friendly and down-to-earth. The majority will not blow you away with their smarts or their focus, and as an undergraduate that bothered me a lot, but there are smart students that you can find with some effort. That's sort of a general theme of my experience: there are a lot of opportunities available, but there can be some hurdles to jump. For example, class sizes are large, and it can be easy to feel neglected on an individual level, but I found faculty to be very approachable and helpful. I think the professors do genuinely care about students, and if you show that you have real interest in the subject, they will do their best to help you.

But as I said before, UCD is not for everyone. It is not a social hub (due partly to its location), its campus is not very impressive, and it is not (universally) a household name among schools. If these are important considerations to you, you may not like life at UCD. Also, although it is a major research university now, it still shows signs of its agricultural origins. Aside from the cows on campus, it also appears in the selection of courses offered. For example, there is no undergraduate business degree, and there is a general lack of finance and accounting courses, but there is an Agricultural and Resource Economics department. Hmm. These realities are simply part of UCD's identity, so take them into account if you are you considering UC Davis against other schools. The dominant impression I hope to give is that UCD has a lot going for it, but recognize what it is and isn't good for, and how those align with your expectations.
