This school is a mixed bowl, and thereSuper Brilliant
This school is a mixed bowl, and there is potential for both success and utter failure here. I have had brilliant professors who are masters in their fields (and childhood idols of mine), and I have had professors with....Scad BFAs and no outside experience (caught in the quagmire of sloth, poor souls). If you are extremely pro-active, you can get your money's worth, but I would liken it to staying afloat in a leaking canoe. (the ocean representing the "real world"). A shoddy canoe is definitely better than treading water, but would my time be more productively spent building my own boat? Tough call....

Question
Some thoughts about the SCAD Fashion Department fromNot so brightArt & Design Department
Some thoughts about the SCAD Fashion Department from an insider as of 2010. There is no Chairperson - nobody wants the job. The Dean is new and inexperienced in education and design - clueless. There is difficulty keeping profs. 3 good ones left this past year and haven't been replaced. Aside from the flashy visitors, the connections to NYC are zero. Not what they are at FIT / Parsons and Pratt - . The placement person is useless. Half the profs are excellent and the rest going thru the motions - of the remaining ones - all have no current connection to the fashion world. Half have their Masters degrees from SCAD. You are on your own getting an internship. Job placement figures they quote are a lie. Because of the open admissions - classes are dragged down by the less talented and lazy... The most recent collaboration with Malandrino and Posen was a disaster.

Question
The Film department at SCAD is a hugeQuite BrightArt & Design Department
The Film department at SCAD is a huge let down. Every student hear is a Quentin Tarantino/martin Scorcesse reject.

There is no originality. All the.thesis and senior films are the same as last years films. What professor approved this?

The profeesors are either has beens or recent SCAD grads. We have one professor wh swore he new 3D tech. Its week 6 and he doesn't have a clue. The school bought the equipment too late so we didn't get the rig for 3D until week three.

Why didn't they buy a camera instead. The professors spends OUR classtime learning the rig. He doesn't have a bit of sense. He is never prepeared for class. Don't waste your money. Go to.a real program. This one sucks.
