DePaul was a great place for me in 1978.Chemistry
DePaul was a great place for me in 1978. I lived in a dump of an apartment in Portage Park with a cousin who was a U of C law student (now a Federal appealate court judge) and I really grew up during those four years. I remember the women at DePaul being pretty plain (most) but that certainly seems to have changed more than 25 years later.

Anyway, I loved the school. Administration then and now seemed too ensconsed in its ivory tower. I remember the dean of students, Patricia Ewers, announcing each year the tuition increases (up to 7% I think one or two years while I was there) and then comparing the University's cost-push cycle to that of Notre Dame or Georgetown. DePaul was great, but it's not on the same level as Georgetown or Notre Dame. It was a lame attempt to placate the masses and it surely did not work.25 years post graduation, I still get these inane letters asking for money. However, I've found that any request I make of the university (for information, for example) never warrants a response. I also enjoy the DePaul magazine, that seems primarily to feature the CPAs, finance drones and lady bountifuls who seem extremely impressed with themselves, who they know, what they drive and what they do, although it has done a better job telling the stories of first generation attendees and other related success stories. Unfortunately I have all but lost touch with the University but some of my best friends in the world came from DePaul. You will do well to enjoy your classes, friends and experiences but ignore the uninformed and lame administrative structure you'll likely encounter.

Not a bad university if you really enjoy the city and you want to be in an "urban" environment. It's not quite my style, and that has thrown me some curves but my major of study has a strong department here. Come here if you know you won't mind living off-campus and commuting through snow and very cold temperatures. Also, realize that although DePaul has a pretty quad, that's it... the rest is city.

Question
DePaul is pretty awesome.Quite BrightUndecided
DePaul is pretty awesome. Classes are challenging, (except for spanish, which is in my experience pretty much just like high school) but not overwhelming (There's a LOT of reading, but that comes with any college. I've never had a professor that wasn't willing to go out of his/her way to help his/her students. There can be bureaucracy, but its usually friendly bureaucracy. The campus is just a really open, welcoming, and friendly environment. Lincoln Park is an area that's nice to walk around and DePaul's buildings are pretty attractive (if that matters to people when choosing a college...??). The dorms (except for corcoran) here are amazing compared to other schools. There's only 2 halls that have community bathrooms, and I actually prefer the community bathrooms anyway because the showers are spacious, there's no waiting, there's water pressure, etc etc. And I have to say one of the best things about DePaul is the fact that it's in Chicago. I mean, we're in the middle of the city so there's always something to do.
