Though the comments here do mention the high tuition, keep in mind that literally every other private school has near the same prices. Tulane is generous with their scholarships and understand that their facilities in some ways aren't the best. People who are unsatisfied here would honestly be unsatisfied anywhere. Yes, there are definitely stereotypical Northeastern "Japs", and if you are in any way afraid of the Jewish community, don't come here. One must understand that as a prestigious private school that is non denominational, Tulane, like Univeristy of Miami, attracts Jewish kids. Tulane and UMiami are similar in persona except that Tulane is more academically challenging, better surrounding city, and has a grandoise culture behind it. What I find is that people here, and in most colleges, don't really find inclination to get involved outside of class, and thats something that can make or break you in a school that isn't large but isn't small, either.

Tulane is probably the best school for work hard-play hard mentality; there is no other school that parties as much but simultaneously boasts Southern Ivy quality students. There are reasons Tulane doesn't hold a higher prestige than it deserves. Firstly, Katrina demolished the reputation of NOLA in general, and the crime attributed to the city does not attract many students. Secondly, New Orleans is a city of sin, and alcohol is a daily ritual. This also might deter that ever-serious sober genius student who would love it here if they disregarded what people talk about. However, I don't think you really know until you are here.

FIRST WE OUT DRINK YOU, THEN WE OUT THINK YOU.
Tulane was the best time I've had/am having of my life. Probably the only complaint I have is about the cafeteria, which, as a Junior, I don't have to deal with anymore. Some people like it, but I don't think I would like many cafeterias in general.

Some of Tulane's academics, in my perspective, match Ivy League schools, especially within difficult disciplines like the sciences. I predict that Tulane will be a great name in the near future, as its student body is climbing in intelligence every year. Its prestige will be recognized as New Orleans develops into a better city. All I really have to say is college is what you make of it, and if you use your resources here, you will not have made a mistake.
