New England Conservatory is one of the bestMusic - Performance
New England Conservatory is one of the best music schools in America. Saxophonists love NEC because you get to study with Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, and Ken Radnofsky. NEC is cutting edge for new music and the string faculty is considered the best in the country. Student concerts are reviewed in the Boston Globe and other major newspapers and students get to perform in Jordan Hall! NEC is incredibly tough but well worth it.

Question
NEC was a horrible experience for me.Quite BrightMusic - Performance
NEC was a horrible experience for me. I was a voice major and was shuffled around between teachers, told I wasn't good, and never once got to perform...all of this as one of the better singers in my class. The faculty are mostly washed-up performers who do not want to be teaching. Those that do really want to teach are often so elderly that you can't be sure they'll be there from day to day (my first teacher had a stroke four weeks into school...she was in her 90s). Not many opportunities are made available to undergrads. Do NOT attend NEC as an undergrad...you will be sorry you did!
