We spent weeks debating Freud in 300 andQuite BrightSocial Work
We spent weeks debating Freud in 300 and 400 level classes. Lots of theory no method; the courses repeated the same thing. It was convenient to already know what would be on the test but the classes didnt teach any real skills. We just read a little more about the same theories over and over with each passing year.

Dr. Hanyes was a professor who tried to make an impression by screaming at his class. Other professors taught from the book. Nobody made any waves and the effect was an easy pass. Read the chapter, you're good; the lectures just repeat what was in the text, nothing more.

When I left, I discovered that I needed to know much more to get employed in the field of social work. GVSU told me I would make 45K with a job from their program over and over again. They were only marketing their program and they lied. The Social Work Curriculum lacked method and it left some difficulty getting into a decent graduate school like the University of Michigan. I had to attend antoher university and take additional courses because the GVSU curriculum just didn't prepare me for anything and it was not respected by several universities. If you have a disability, don't do it. They will try to get you into this accommodation program that works for some, but if your condition carries a stigma it can hurt you. It's a great attraction with the promise of untimed tests but the price too high. The professors asked illegal questions about my disability and if I didnt answer them, they stated assumptions and moved on.

Question
GVSU is a joke of a school.BrightCommunications
GVSU is a joke of a school. Sure, it puts on a great show, and has a nice, new, shiny campus. But once you're in, you realize its all for show. The administration is ridiculous and weighs students down in mindless bureaucracy and nonsense. They squander and waste the resources, choosing to build unsightly and un-needed new buildings and buy "toys" that go unused (DPS segway scooters). So much is spent on tooting the university's own horn, and proGVSU propaganda, and convincing the students and the people around the school that the college is amazing, rather than actually trying to make it a decent place to be.

The student body here is as ridiculous, and contrived as the university itself. There is no diversity here, contrary to what the school tells you, as 90% of the students are Caucasion, Protestant, and closetly bigoted towards anyone not like them.

The classwork here is a joke too, as most of the programs simply bog their students down in mind numbing busy work, rather than intellectually challenging and stimulating material. The professors pretend to care, and some of them actually do, but most are here just waiting for their tenure to hit, and then they slack off. Simply put, I feel like I'm back at community college, or worse, in high school. If you actually want academic substance, a diverse and welcoming student body, and a college that stands behind its curriculum, rather than wasting time and money on contrived ideas and lies, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH GRAND VALLEY. I'm transferring out, to a school that is actually worth my time and money.

Question
I chose Grand Valley State University because ofQuite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
I chose Grand Valley State University because of the business college. I also chose it because of it's beauty and modernized structures. They did a great job of taking advantage of new technological opportunities. However, the technology is only as good as the people that use it.

Grand Valley State University is not very outgoing when it comes to student's needs. They spend tuition money on new "toys" such as vehicles, and do not distribute resources properly. Upon requesting tables for a fraternity event, I did not receive them until the 3rd day. The explanation was that "the gremlins were taking them." This was unacceptable. The student workers that are hired to perform food service jobs, maintain landscaping, and other miscellaneous tasks do not have very good people skills. They will cut in front of customers, often have attitudes, and do not perform quality work.
