One of Grand Valley's problems is that they are growing too fast for their own good. Once admitted to Grand Valley, you are treated as a number. Several of the staff speak english as a second language and are difficult to understand. Many faculty try to make their classes excessively difficult to "weed students out". Many faculty treat students as an inconvenience. Class sizes range anywhere from 20 to 200 students. Traffic on campus is horrible at all times of day.The campus is in the town of Allendale which is nice because it gives it a small town feel, but it suffers because there is not much to do unless you travel to Grandville or Grand Rapids.
Anyway, Grand Valley has been a pretty positive experience. My professors, with in my majors, have been great mentors and are helping me get into a Graduate School. I have made a tremendous amount of friends by simply being social. I started a couple clubs, and have participated in a few. All together, there is plenty too do. Even if your idea of a good time is simply getting high in the woods, Grand Valley provides an endless amount of trails for that.
Yes, people do go home on the weekends, but those people aren't worth meeting anyway. In fact, when you are a Freshman and don't have an assload of work, the weekends become the best time too meet people and have fun. There is a city 20 minutes away for nightlife (which it seems many of the negative reviews come from underagers anyways "boo hoo the police won't let me drink" GROW A PAIR).Do I have complaints, sure. But they mostly deal with department politics that you find anywhere. So come here if you want quality Undergrad education, and you have enough motivation too get off your ass and find fun.
