I had doubts about coming to Duke, butBrightOther
I had doubts about coming to Duke, but now I couldn't be happier with my choice. People are friendly-- everywhere you go people giving you a smile or asking how you are. A lot of people are involved in Greek life, but it is by no means a necessary part of having fun. (Most) professors are extremely willing to help you. I've had professors who came in on the weekend to hold review sessions before tests and professors who have invited the whole class out to lunch. Undergraduates are not ignored and shoved to the academic sidelines. In fact, they are encouraged to do research with professors and get involved in other aspects of the university. Durham isn't exactly New York or Boston, but I've found that there are so many things to do on campus that it doesn't really matter. Overall, Duke is a forward looking university that can provide you with the opportunity to do just about anything.

Be sure to appreciatePsychology
Be sure to appreciate the wonderful environment. You may never be in the company of so many talented colleagues again. Take some academic chances - learn something in a new field - rather than going for what you think will increase your GPA. Make good friends and keep them.

Question
Duke was the perfect school for me.Quite BrightPublic Policy
Duke was the perfect school for me. Work hard, play hard atmosphere. We can party, and study too. It isn't overly intellectual (which I like). As mentioned before, there is definitely a racial divide. However, I think most people find a place for them within the social spectrum. When I was applying to colleges, I really wanted a school with a traditional campus feel, where most things take place on campus. From Freshman year onwards, the social scene moved progressively off-campus. This is probably my biggest complaint. By senior year you could hear a pin drop on a Friday night on main west campus... which definitely was not how it was my freshman year.
