You go to Columbia for New York City.Quite BrightIndustrial Operations Engineering
You go to Columbia for New York City. Not only is it great for going out, but it is a culture learning tool and provides opportunities not available anywhere else in the world. The students can be extremely bright, and conversations are always at a higher intellectual level, which might initially sound intimidating, but eventually proves to be the most rewarding. You learn the most from the students (your friends) that you end up spending most of your time with while having a great time.

Question
Wonderful experience all around.Quite BrightBiology
Wonderful experience all around. Brilliant faculty, and incredibly approachable -- my math professor took the whole class to dinner several times at the faculty club. PAID summer research in Biology (and other programs) easily available. Friendly, brilliant classmates. The housing isn't so great sophomore year, but every other year (including freshman) you are essentially guaranteed a single if you want it.

Question
I would not recommend Columbia for those seekingQuite BrightMusic - Composition/Theory
I would not recommend Columbia for those seeking an education in music. The joint program with Juilliard that is so highly touted in Columbia's brochure is non-existent. Not even the Dean of the school has been able to explain why Columbia advertises this program, but fails to deliver the goods. There is little applied music at Columbia, and no feeling of unity amongst those who choose music as a major. Though the city has much to offer artisticly, New York is filthy, overpriced, rude and crowded. A major disappointment compared to other large cities that offer similar opportunities. As with many in the music department, I will be transferring out A.S.A.P.
