Positive Negative Neutral Advice
To those of you who are going toOther
To those of you who are going to or already transfered into the school: Be Careful. Make sure you are on top of everything, and you read all the fine print. Make sure you know what your transcript is going to include..especially those who were in honors programs at their previous schools (the honors designation will most likely not be acknowledged, and will be removed from your transcript...which is something I am currently challenging). And make sure you ask the head of your department as many questions about your dars or requirements or anything that pops in your head. make yourself heard and known.and here's why: majority of the people arent interested in helping you. especially as a transfer. also, if you went to a community college, they tend to discriminate against you and your education. (which is also something i'm challenging) They are too caught up in themselves and the idea that this is the ivy of the SUNY schools. and they will belittle the quality of the education you received at your cc. which will effect the way your classes transfer over. And You won't even realize what they do or have done..unless you discover it yourself by reading all the fine print on your dars and ask a lot of questions. There is a huge chance you will get screwed over in the end unless you pay attention.

Question
I am a senior at Bing, and IQuite BrightSociology
I am a senior at Bing, and I have found that you either loooove it or hate it. Binghamton, I love! It may not be the prettiest campus but the views are gorgeous and sitting on campus during the 4 weeks of the year that have perfect weather are priceless. I have taken classes in anthropology, psychology, sociology, english, math, geography, comparative literature, poli sci, art, creative writing, I have sampled a little bit of everything. Binghamtons professors are brilliant people. Some are there for research purposes and some like to teach, I have had more professors that I like than dislike. Rate my professor online, offers a pretty fair assessment, so look before you choose a class. I have heard and seen some negative reviews from other Binghamton students. The weather is sometimes challenging, although every year there is less snow and bitter cold. There is a lot to do in Binghamton but you have to look for it. You can't sit in your room and expect something to happen. The school has a lot of weekend "Late Nite Binghamton" activities from making your own curtains, to free recent movies and video games. In the area there is also a zoo, discovery center, museum, art galleries (Washington St), First Friday's which is a festival the first friday of every month downtown, Apple and Berry Orchards where you can pick your own and get a cheap and delicious lunch, also ithaca which has tons to do is only 45 mins away, syracuse with the biggest mall around is an hour, so is scranton, and oneonta. The school has weekend day trips for all who dont have a car for about 5 bucks. Every restaurant type, chain or otherwise is in binghamton, along with a small small with all of the necessities. The movies in binghamton with student ID are 5 or 6 dollars( i recommend hoyts-they have nicer seats) 24 hour places to go are dennys, walmart, wegmans, wendys, there are also ice skating and roller skating rinks, the school also has hundreds of acres of property called the nature preserve for hiking, it is beautiful. There are also intramural sports, usually one or two days a week in soccer, bball, softball, rugby, frisbee, volleyball, its a great way to meet people. Theres also a strip of bars and clubs downtown. The school is in a prime location for things to do or places to explore. But you have to take advantage of it, most people I know who complain don't bother to look, they just sit and complain. The academics of the school are challenging. As I've taken a variety of courses I can say that class size ranges from 10 students to 400. The 400 person classes are for intro classes, like intro to psych or chem, most of these classes are accompanied by a 25 person discussion section once a week. If you pay attention and get to know your professors, whether in class, or in office hours, you won't be a number, even in 400 person classes. Binghamton is what you make of it. It CAN be the best 4 years of your life but you gotta put a little effort in to find the hidden gems.

Question
If you can not visit the campus justQuite BrightOther
If you can not visit the campus just close your eyes and visualize your NY junior high built in the 1950s. It is about as ugly as it can be. Since the weather is cold and nasty from September to May or june you will not have to see the campus much. It is very dark even at noon in May. That will spare you from noticing the ugly campus. You can save on the sun screen. All kidding aside, what does it matter that the campus is ugly or that it is a dark cold place and everyone is depressed. The price is cheap. I hear it is now the best buy in the world. Even better than Walmart or Kmart. You will spend more on your Ipod or Cable than on your classes and you will end up with a degree. Isn't that what is really important anyway! Seriously, a class is cheaper than a quick lunch at Burger King.YOu do not get a kids toy but a degree will get you further in the end don't you think. Advice is to be sure to have plenty of anti depressent if you have a perscription for them and thick underwear. Do not worry about how ugly the buildings are or how the inside of all the buildings look like your junior high. You will still get a college degree.
