They force you to have a meal plan for the awful greasy food, and it's easy to get sick after almost every single meal. There are always gnats in all of the food places, and finding hair and pieces of plastic in food will start to become common events.
These people are...the worst. I've never met such idiotic assholes in my life. I didn't know they existed, I thought it was just a myth until now. Everyone is an alcoholic, and no one can comprehend the simplest of concepts. Prepare for your daily classes by getting ready to hear the stupidest questions asked throughout the whole lecture.
The staff will work hard to avoid you and tell you everything is fine even when you come to them for help. If you say you're uncomfortable with your roommate since he's drunk all the time and threatens to kill your friends, they'll say it's normal to feel some tension with your roommate from time to time. I've gone through 2 roommates and both were insane. (By the way, don't go for International House in Morrison.) They take all the socially awkward international students and stick them on one floor, paired up with US students, hoping to "stabilize" them.
Crime is everywhere, and I can feel the pollutants in my lungs as I walk to class. The classes are alright, if anything, too easy, but with so much busy work that teaches you nothing. The teachers range anywhere from friendly/good to the worst teachers you'll ever have, so good luck.
OSU has beautiful landscaping all over, but in actual fact - buildings are run down and falling apart. The university is so absorbed with spending money on making OSU "green", that it doesn't give a f*** about student's comfort and enjoyment coming to learn there - the roads have been narrowed in favor of trees and grass being planted. There are not enough parking spaces, and somewhere on campus there is ALWAYS AN AREA CLOSED OFF FOR CONSTRUCTION.
There is no sense of responsibility among the students - it's all about drinking, clubbing, putting off homework/assignments for the last minute and other such behavior. School comes SECOND. So, if you're one who loves to drink, party and socialize - OSU is the university for you!
Some professors (even in the higher level courses) don't give a flying f*** about undergrads and the fact that they are learning the course material for the first time. They teach the material AS THEY PLEASE!! I had to withdraw from one of my classes because of this.
Regarding setting up meetings with your adviser - LOTS OF LUCK!!! It takes at least 6 weeks to get a response to emails or even make an appointment with them - it's ridiculous!
Don't make the mistake I did - research your university thoroughly... it may save you valuable dollars in the end.
