Positive Negative Neutral Advice
When I attended UC, I believed this universityBrightGeography and Geosciences
When I attended UC, I believed this university would provide me with a decent education. However as a geology major, I felt my time at UC was not worth. Everything went downhill after the university switched over to semesters for the first time in years. In the case of the geology department, they seemed unprepared for the conversion and created new semester courses last minute. These courses were also major courses; I expected more from these classes, but was disappointed. First off, many of this classes were 2 hours long and I expected a lot of material to be covered. However, very little was discussed in class and a lot of the material had to be looked up on the internet or in the textbook. The exception to this is sedimentary geology and earth history in which the professor actually covered more material in class than the textbook. Another thing, I was pursuing a BS in geology and was surprised that I was more than halfway done with the degree by my sophomore year and possibly be done by my junior year. By the second semester, I was fed up with the mismanaged courses and I decided to transfer to Ohio State because the geology program is better there. All of the geology courses I took at UC didn't transfer over, but I didn't care because I was looking for a restart. After I transferred to Ohio State, I finally feel I'm actually learning useful material in my major.

Question
The classes are fine, the students are fine,BrightPsychology
The classes are fine, the students are fine, and I loved my professors in my first semester. But the One Stop Center and other administration is HORRIBLE. They are the least helpful people I have ever met in my entire life. They treat you as nothing more than a money donor and a number and they cannot be bothered if it isn't something easy. I was having trouble with a bill. I got transferred to several different voicemails with ZERO callbacks and was eventually sent to collections. After having explained my situation to someone in person, the only answer I got was 'You need to call this number.' It was the collections number. F*CK UC and their "accessible and helpful staff". What a sorry excuse for an operation. Do yourself a favor and avoid this school. You will regret it. I've had nothing but trouble with them since the very beginning and I'm currently looking into other schools so I can get the hell out of this one. NOT WORTH IT.

Question
Quite BrightEnglish
There's two main reviews for UC: the bureaucracy and the academics. I'll start with the negative first. The onestop center & admissions are very bureaucratic. I've been told several things by different people on the same subject. They tend to treat most students like a number and are generally unhelpful & condescending if they need additional help. Although they claim to be open to new students regardless of differences, they certainly hold a bias against anyone who is not a traditional student. If you are a non-traditional student, have a unique social background, & also happen to look non-white, etc, you will be regarded with suspicion & will be reluctantly helped. This is really the worst side of UC because not only am I paying the tuition, but these staff members only care if you bring in additional revenue. All they require is that you don't ask or speak, which is quite disgusting. Therefore, any other questions are considered a waste of their time. Clearly, I do not care for this side of UC. I am in my mid-twenties & had to continue college later for several unforeseeable factors. My experience with this piece of bureaucratic nonsense was quite unacceptable. You'll probably see this sort of negative attitude at some random places or offices scattered throughout the campus, but I am optimistic.

Now?for the positives! UC, academically, is amazing for anyone who is curious & wants to work hard at a challenge. My liberal arts professors, mostly tenured or Phd, are generally passionate about their subject & will welcome great discussions and ideas. My liberal arts classes are generally challenging, usually requiring ample time & analytic thinking. I have also met interesting classmates with different beliefs and backgrounds, so I felt that I was living in a mini city on campus. Most students are from Ohio, but you'll still meet some who hail from other states or outside the US. Social life just depends on who choose as friends or the places you choose to visit around the Cincinnati areas. The libraries are really helpful & have ample resources. The library staff & their IT people are usually courteous and willing to help.

Overall, UC is what you make of it. For the tuition cost & quality of the major classes, the degree is a sweet deal. You can graduate with relatively little debt if you balanced school work & worked paid internships/co-ops during the summer. There are certain other negatives like general education requirements or random 100-200 level classes with condescending TAs & petty adjunct instructors; so the sooner you sign-up for your degree/major classes, the better you'll feel. This might be humorous, but most computer lab staff is really rude if you bring anything resembling a mug, so hide it! If you have a positive attitude and use the campus resources, such as the recreation center & the main library, you should be able to attend & continue school with little difficulty. That's all for now!
