Positive Negative Neutral Advice
As mentioned by an earlier MIS major, thisSuper BrilliantBusiness - Management and Administration
As mentioned by an earlier MIS major, this school does not provide the education and tools necessary to be successful in the IT/IS profession. Most MIS and CS students I have spoken with admit they do not feel they have the qualifications required to pursue a successful career in IT, and plan to take courses outside of the university in order to "catch up". If I was not already working in the field as a professional developer and had prior experience, I would be at a loss. It's embarassing to meet with recruiters as most will automatically asume a graduate of OSU does NOT have the required knowledge and will tend to put the candidate on the back burner or offer a very low entry level position.

Most classes were taught by under-qualified graduate students, most who cannot clearly speak english. Although a very select few were willing to help the students, most were too busy with individual research to devote appropriate time to instruction.

Testing is a joke. It is a test of puzzle solving and straight memorization. MIS is a field of hands-on application, of which very little hands on training is offered. If you're into athletics, this is your school. If you're looking for an education, consider going elsewhere. Paying out-of-state tuition may even be worth your while.

Question
Oklahoma State is absolutely the best school inOther
Oklahoma State is absolutely the best school in America period. It may not have the academics of an Ivy league school or the beaches like UC Santa Barbara does. But OSU has a great well-rounded package I have yet to see at any other school. It has one of the best looking campuses in the country because of how well the architecture is blended together. The academics are pretty descent. I graduated from the Aviation Science program and have to say it has better substance and is more affordable then other aviation programs such as Embry-Riddle, University of North Dakota, and Purdue. The teachers and instructors in the aviation department were awesome.

Plus, it's the only school out there to host ESPN college gameday in both basketball and football. Great sports school, which makes it fun for its students and allumni.

Question
I am majoring in Management Information Systems.BrightSchool of Information
I am majoring in Management Information Systems. I will graduating after I finish this one last class. I have never operated a server, or a router. I have no knowledge of SAS or Oracle. I do have a hyper-generalized idea of Mangement Information Systems though.

I wish the computer programming department would get past the 1960's (i.e. we are taught to program with vi as an editor) this is probably due to tenured faculty in their 60's. However, they will help you to no end if you go during office hours with well directed problems to solve.

Also, we never have those classes where you have to debate and support your thoughts (except for business law). There are no real world case studies (which I love). It is like you get a lot of equations (standard deviation, EVA, signal to noise ratio etc.), but the big picture is not discussed. Things like globalization, business culture, news that is class related are not discussed. I have this ungrounded feeling. I have this degree, but I don't feel like I know anything. I have all my books, I review them from time to time, but it seems like this has all been a game. That this is some scholastic fiction, a behavioral conditioning so that I can be put in some box and do what I am told (this is probably more me because none of the other students seem to say anything correlating to this - I don't know). Anyway, I'm graduating....
