You're reading this because you are trying to get a handle on whether you want to go to Reed, right? Don't decide this way - its russian roulette. You *have* to come and visit and get an inkling of an idea about whether this is someplace you would like to be for the next for years, because there is NO WAY to know it ahead of time. I didn't have a chance to visit, and it worked out for me, but it might not have, and $30000 is a lot of money to spend if you're not sure. Unless, of course, you have loads of aid. :)

PS: Don't come here if you're looking for parties that you would like to attend more than once a month. And while there are a lot of hippies here, if you're looking to change the world, man, you won't satisfy that urge here.

PPS: Don't be christian. If you are...no, just don't be christian, it will save you needless stress here. Or you could not come here. You might prefer that option. PPPS: In other words, for all its "liberal-openmindedness", sometimes an idea/group/movement will just be shut down by the student body if it doesn't fit with a certian punk rock status quo. That may sound really weird to you, but again, it's best to visit. Oh yeah, theres a shitload of work.

Question
While there are a lot of individuals screaming with joyReligion/Religious
While there are a lot of individuals screaming with joy to be "Reedies" I'm not exactly thrilled about it. I actually had a demeaning experience due to the nature of the professors in my department. I felt that I received no support and was actually somewhat ostracized merely because of an incident in which a professor blatantly lied to me and then threatened to take me to the school's judicial board for discovering his lie. I found that while Reed College is a "liberal arts" school, it is not so liberal in the sense that there is an underlying attitude that if you do not agree with the professors in their approach, you will not get as much academic attention and support. There is not as much room for differing ideas as one would expect. The school has an overlying attitude of arrogance that disgusted me and still does. The challenge of the school's academic rigor definitely helped me grow, but I believe its approach is narrow minded. I've heard the same response from other "Reedies". There are many students that leave this place as heroin and coke addicts -this says a lot in itself. For all its intellectual glamour, there is a whole other side to the individual that is swept under the carpet at this institution.
