You people are ridiculous.Super BrilliantArchitecture
You people are ridiculous. Accept some responsibility for your LIFE and stop blaming your school, as the last person said. I was always 'popular' in high school, but I never actually liked the people I knew. At CMU everyone is brilliant, creative, kind, and inspiring. So what if people are, in general, a little more geeky than your high school? Deal with it. I love the people here. Oh, and as shallow of a comment as this is, I feel the need to clarify that 'geeky' does NOT mean 'ugly.' In the real world it is usually a skewed take on intelligenceAlso, I should point out that the CMU architecture program is renowned for being a painful experience. I know many people who love it, but they are all hard-working types. It does not suprise me that almost all of the CMU reviews on this site are excellent... as they deserve to be... but when you look up the architecture program specifically you see that they have eight responses (people tend to reply to these things when they are angry about something) that are very negative. Do be warned that architecture is hard. Yes, kids, Carnegie Mellon is a competitive school. Yes, that does mean it is hard. It isnt unecessary work-- you learn from everything. Get over it.

Question
I just wish more people knew how socialSuper BrilliantArt & Design Department
I just wish more people knew how social and friendly CMU is. It truly isn't a place for people who are only interested in going to college for the frats, sports, and beer pong... although all of that does exist, it is an isolated community. Yes, we do have parties. Contrary to popular belief, CMU students do have a lot of fun. It is what you make of it, and at CMU all of the opportunities are there. I love CMU. If you dont, you should really rethink what you have been doing instead of being so quick to blame the university.

Question
Basically cmu ruined my life.BrightArchitecture
Basically cmu ruined my life. it only took me until the 2nd week to decide that i was going to transfer. i think the only thing that kept me at all sane through the year was the thought that "it'll only be a year, u can do it".

it's impossible to get out:

in spring i decided to definitely transfer schools. there's only one problem with transfering though, your gpa sux. unless you work day and night, especially studio based majors, you will not do well. this means that it's really hard to transfer, not many schools want someone with a 2.5 which is around the average for archis.

sports:
i was on the crew team for fall semester. it was awful. i rowed for 3 years in highschool and my senior year we were undefeated until youth states. when i came here i was amazed at how aweful the team was. one positive thing is that by having to wake up at 415am 6 days a week it doesn't give u a chance to go out. it would have been worth it to get up at early if the cmu team wasn't slower than my highschool team. and i must say that the coach was by far the worst coach that i have ever had. in highschool i went through 3 coaches and probably around 15 more at various training camps during summers. the cmu coach was terrible.

social life:
there isn't one. well, there is if you try really really hard. join a frat, or if you're female then go to frats. there are house parties fairly frequently they're just really hard to find out about. there are some kids that party the majority of the nights of the week. i found them spring semester and succeeded in lowering my gpa by .5 because i wasn't in studio every night like the other archis.

pittsburgh:
overall pittsburgh kinda sux. i like it alot better than i did when i first got here but it's still not that great. when feb comes around it makes u wanna kill yourself. this year the sun didn't come out for about 3 weeks straight. it's the most depressing place ever in winter.

dorms:
dorms suck. the rooms are really small. i actually ended up living in a frat house because the school kicked them off campus and turned their house into a freshman dorm. i think being directly adjoined to a frat contributed alot to my having any social life at all. also the fact that my roomate knew a senior in the adjoining frat helped. if i had lived in a freshman dorm with a bad roomate (which is very easy to get) i think i probably would have left after first semester.anyways. i really really despise cmu with the greatest hate that i have known for a while. i'm taking next year off because i don't know where i'd rather go to school and i really couldn't bear to go back there for another year. basically don't go to cmu unless you're one of the unfortunate ones and you're being forced to go by you're parents. feel free to email me i'd be happy to rant some more
