CMU was great.Biology
CMU was great. Although they are most famous for churning our archies, cs ppl., and drama peeps, their science school (MCS) is also pretty awesome. As you can see, I majored in biology, and had a wonderful experience. Professors are very personable, very interested in helping students and getting them involved in research. Yes, it's easy to do research here, just ask!

Student advising was also unparalleled. I keep hearing how at other schools the advisors all suck, but here, our biology department lady was great. She knew everything pertaining to the curriculum, she was extremely organized, worked hard, and helped me ( and many other students) out many times. When it comes down to applying to grad school, a job, or medical school, she is an angel.

I also loved the friends I made here. Yes, ppl. here are weird, but in a geeky kind of way. If you don't like geeks, dorks, and others who are very intense about their interests, DON'T GO HERE. You'll hate it. However, social life is what you make of it, and you can definitely find many "normal" guys and gals to hang with.

Pittsburgh is not a great city to live in, in fact, it sucks. It's pretty safe, but also extremely boring and has horrible weather. CMU campus is probably the prettiest place in this city for miles.

Question
Carnegie Mellon's architecture program is very professionallArchitecture
Carnegie Mellon's architecture program is very professionally oriented and prepared me well for working in the field. I believe that the program could have been even more professionally oriented (ironic, I know) and so I supplemented my Carnegie education with additional technical classes during the summers.

Question
Before getting in to architecture make sure youAverageArchitecture
Before getting in to architecture make sure you know what it really is. And if you think you will be good at it because you know CAD, you are wrong. Architecture involves a lot of creative thinking and design, taught by a lot of people that think you dont know what you are doing, and they are right most of the time. I can tell you its not completely what i expected. OH, and hopefully you are either asian or from a city on the east coast because if you are not, the people like you are hard to find, they are there, i found them, but you have to look pretty hard. Its a great school with amazing resources and faculty but not a whole lot of exploration goes on. If you come here you basically know what you are going to do for the rest of your life. Or you think you know.
