Brown University - Comments and Student Experiences | |||||||||||||||||||

Academically, the experience is all what you make of it. The majority spend a reasonable amount of time on work, some never seem to study, and a handful are exposed for the stressed-out workaholics they when they come out into the hall to shush those of us engaged in the whack-ass philosophical discussion du jour.
People here are almost without exception tremendously humble about their brilliance (a brilliance which is shared by most, even some athletes!). This can mean that I am wowed by people less than I'd expected to be, but at the same time I am SUPREMELY grateful for the humility and COMPLETE lack of intellectual pretension that predominate here.
Students tend toward the wealthy, although the implementation of need-blind admissions will add a good chunk of aid-students to the mix next year. Wealth is NEVER flaunted.
Socially, Brown offers a veritable orgy of possibilities. I generally party one or two nights a week (alcohol is slightly more prevalent than pot... probably 40% of Brunonians never touch either), see a play, an a-cappella group or Improvidence on quieter nights, and movies abound, both at the Avon on Thayer (regularly infested with Brown students), downtown at the mall, or in a random room. The social calender is a study in contrasts: the LGBTA's SexPowerGod, a techno-blaring orgy on the dance floor, followed closely by Fall Ball, a campuswide semi-formal.
Anyway, Brown rocks. I have already learned more than I did all through high school, yet I could learn twice as much if I did all my reading.Contact me @ Jeffrey_
