The education program at PC could not haveEducation
The education program at PC could not have prepared me any better for the challenges I face daily with teaching. The fact that the program for elementary majors also includes becoming certified in special education was a HUGE help when looking for my first job. I work at an elementary school with 2 other PC alums, and our principal has said more than once that she likes first year teachers from PC because you can't really tell that it's their first year. I can say without hesitation that the education department at PC was key in preparing me for the real world of teaching.

I loved PC. But I will say that I am a much harder worker now than I was then.

The further I get from my Providence CollegeLanguage - French/Spanish/etc.
The further I get from my Providence College experience, the more thankful I am for it. Being a college administrator, I went on to work at highly selective schools (one that PC students see as in directo competition) and I realize that the nurturing and support of the PC environment was exactly what I needed to "come into my own".

Academically, I was engaged and had wonderful, personalized attention in both the honors program (Dr. Delasanta and the rest of the honors faculty is fantastic!) and the Modern Langauges department. In fact, I think the Modern Languages department has some of the hidden gems of PC. Professors I never even had in the classroom knew my name and what I was doing post-graduation in that department.

Western Civ, while the subject of much moaning, gave me a foundation in subjects that one would think all educated people should know. However, I've found that many colleagues are lacking in some of these areas. It's not just for Jeopardy, kids. :)

Providence as a city has changed quite a bit since I was there...the downtown, I've heard, is now a very popular destination. When I was at PC, we rarely went downtown except to go to concerts at Lupo's or The Strand (now the same thing, I believe). Thinking back, I know the area around the school wasn't safe, but living off campus and spending a lot of time walking to and from the bars at all hours, I wasn't afraid at all. That was probably due to my teenage invicability complex.I'm proud of my little school. Though I went on to grad school at a prestigious university, my money only goes to Providence.
