Positive Negative Neutral Advice
First of all, this campus is a commuterQuite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
First of all, this campus is a commuter school in denial. So after 8PM it does not feel like a college environment. In the past semester, crime has escalated dramatically. There are huge parking lots and less people around after 8, so this campus is perfect for criminals to get away with things. Crime has gotten so bad that they stopped sending students crime reports. The school has occasional events planned but they never can execute them well. Usually there are only 2 or 3 things to do and people are extremely shy, awkward, and clicky for college students. The school does not accommodate for the number of commuters that have to stay on campus all day. There is only one place to eat and it is overpriced. It is hard for people that live on campus to find a place to study because of the huge number of commuters on campus. Education department is not good because I found out two weeks into a new semester that they had dropped my Education degree plan a month before the new semester and did not inform me. I asked for refunds on books, classes, and online programs that I had bought for the classes and they refused and also did not help direct me in how to change my major quickly. The Advisors are terrrible! The only way to switch majors is to speak with an Advisor of the department you want to switch to but after waiting 2 weeks to see them, they tell you that they cannot speak with u unless you are that major! It doesn't make sense. I was able to switch my major to Business Administration but had to call about 20 different places to do so. College is already stressful enough, and this school makes sure to give students even more issues to deal with. The business administration majors are not allowed to minor in anything. The business Advisors talk down to you and mess things up. They'll make you take a basic course because you haven't done it even though you might have already taken a very advanced course in that same subject and aced it.

Counselor advised me to take these classes, afterQuite BrightHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
Counselor advised me to take these classes, after she left the other said my sequencing was incorrect and where not allowed and I had to take them all over. Dean was not helpful and they are just truing to pad their bottom lines versus actually helping someone. They are cheating and lying to the students for the universities personal gain.

Question
The most notable thing to realize about UTABrightEngineering Department
The most notable thing to realize about UTA before attending is it's location -- in ARLINGTON, not some big vibrant city -- like Austin or Houston or anything exciting like that -- but ARLINGTON. Though it is located in the DFW area, it is NOT Dallas and it is NOT Fort Worth, so don't expect to be "on the scene" much or to be able to get the most exciting night life out of this University -- Arlington is in a DRY (no liquor stores) county for goodness sake! That's not to say that if you look you won't find a bit of a social life, because there certainly is one -- but it is limited .. it's kind of a make the best with what you got type of situation ...

The lack of a football team SUCKS & the limited school spirit is annoying in comparison to some of the surrounding and associated schools like UNT, SMU, UT-Austin, etc ... but if your going to school for education, you can find a way to make it work ... Greek life is actually pretty good. There are numerous sorority's and fraternity's to join -- which creates a social scene of it's own -- and they are quite active, probably one of the most active organizations on campus!

Other than the limited social scene, you certainly won't be disappointed when you factor in the educational value for your money. The academics are actually fairly good -- especially in the engineering department. Money NOT wasted!

Living on campus is probably a good economical choice. There is NO public transport -- though many citizens and students are TRYING to get something going with the city -- so if you don't have a car, your OUT OF LUCK. There are actually some fairly nice apartment choices -- on and off campus -- and the dorms are nice too. Also, there is a lot of renovation going on at UTA so even more options are springing up! The campus is actually pretty nice and constantly growing so there are no complaints there ...Overall, UTA is ALRIGHT. Not the most exciting or pedestrian-friendly city, but it will do for the cost and educational value.
