Okay here's the kind of student that willQuite BrightChemistry
Okay here's the kind of student that will like JMU, if you were popular in High School and maybe the cheerleader prep type that just fit in with everyone.

I was by no means unpopular in high school, I was really quirky and outgoing and friends with everyone but I was quirky. While no one is mean to your face it's hard to find people to relate too for me. Not to say that they aren't here but you have to be willing to go out of your way to look for them and join lots of clubs and stuff. I don't know if that much effort put into finding friends you like and get along with is normal cause I didn't have to in High School but I don't know.

Also a lot of the girls are fake nice, and really shallow and stupid and catty. Not that they all are, I have a few good friends but more than that should be.

People will tell you that hey the person who didn't like it here just wouldn't fit in anywhere. That's not true, JMU is basically the school that all the really popular people from your high school go to. The guys aren't pricks, most of them are actually quite nice.

Also a lot of the professors I feel try to fail in on purpose. They're not the worst professors ever but they're not the best.

Not much to do except get wasted on weekends, which is fun but every weekend? eh...All in all I wouldn't recommend this school unless you're the type of person I described in the first paragraph. Even if you think you're the tiniest bit quirky you might be happier elsewhere, no that there aren't quirky people here but they're hard to find

Had a great experience, diverse student population. College of Business was excellent, chose to return and purse my MBA because the undergrad Business program was so well structured.

Question
Harrisonburg, as a city, sucks.Quite BrightPhysics
Harrisonburg, as a city, sucks. But there's plenty to do if you're creative. There is a very, very large hiking scene. There are also plenty of opportunities to go rock climbing, caving, camping, etc. If your idea of night life is "NYC Clubbing," Harrisonburg won't offer you anything. But if your idea of night life is going out and learning how to salsa with an authentic, friendly latin population or attending a Shakespearean play in a reconstructed Black Friar's theater, then Harrisonburg and the surrounding area might be for you.

As a scientist, I greatly dislike how much money is spent on football. Spend the money on academics. A new Science Library has been built and it has a 24 hour study room (accessible with the university's ID card).

For the Physics department, specifically, there are many opportunities to excel. Motivated students take part in research and use lots of high-priced equipment that, at other schools, are usually reserved for grad students or post-docs. They have greatly expanded the department, too, and opened up tons of sections of intro Physics. They have doubled the faculty in the last few years. If you're at all interested in Physics, this is a very good school for it with a lot of ties to other universities. I would not recommend going to JMU if you have aspirations of attending Harvard for graduate school; but if you want to go to Duke, UNC, UVA, etc, you'll be fine and have no problems. There are a ton of girls here. If you're not socially awkward, you will have girls interested in you. You will hook up. I consider myself an average-to-cute looking guy and my dance card was always full.
