I was actually waitlisted and ended up emailing the admissions person reading my application to say that William and Mary is still my first choice and I included what I thought I could add to the campus-- I talked about a specific professor I wanted to research with and some clubs I wanted to join. I highly suggest following up with someone if you want to get off the waiting list!!

For Transfers: Make sure you spend a lot of time on your application, especially getting great recommendations and writing good essays. Let them know if anything has come up that would have made it hard for you to do well at your old school. I managed to overcome a not-so-great GPA and get in by putting a ton of effort into everything else.
