I did a lot in high school, so I reccommend doing what I did and emphasizing you as an individual over your SAT/ACT scores. I think the system at any school still relies on SAT scoring to get a representation of a student, so if they're good enough, definitely send them in. But Hofstra is now test optional (something not available when I applied), so if they are maybe not up to the averages, don't send them. If you do that, reach out to your admission counselor. They'll be able to put a face to an application. Instead of being another name in the crowd, by getting to know them, you can get your questions answered, and they'll see how hard you're trying and probably give you extra points (they like to see initiative). Overall: emphasize yourself. Be creative in that essay. Reach out to your counselor here.

Definitely work hard on your essay! Hofstra is a test optional school so if your test scores aren't great you don't have to submit them. That being said, your essay and transcript will be all that admissions counselors are looking at. Make sure you are taking challenging classes in high school and achieving good grades.

I had pretty average SAT scores and a slightly above average GPA. But they really have an emphasis of looking at you holistically: extra curriculars, hobbies, essay, interview, all that fun stuff. So advertise yourself as a individual, not as a good test taker.

Hofstra is not that selective. As long as you have the grades and the test scores, you're good to go. Just make sure you've written a good essay, and make it known that you've researched the school. This is really sound advice for any school you're applying to, so remember it!
