Montclair State University - How to Get into MSU (Undergraduate) | |||||||||||||||||||

2. A word about the SAT: if for some reason you're a disadvantaged student for this test, don't think you can't do well. This test is designed to make people like you fail, but you can overcome it. I can't tell you how to "beat the system" because I simply don't know how. However, I can tell you that there are ways for you improve the skills that this test supposedly measures. Straight up, here's what I did: I borrowed an SAT booklet from someone, reviewed all the basic Math concepts in there (and more), wrote down the definition of and studied every single word that I did not know or understand, read many books the summer prior to taking the SAT for the 2nd time and did the same thing (study as many words as possible, etc). Doing this took me about 6 months, and raised my score from an 1150 the first time to a 1340 the second time.
3. Be very thourough when filling out your application. Read everything at least twice, discuss everything with whomever you have to every step of the way (counselor, parents, someone knowledgeable of these things, etc). Watch out for small fine prints that hide the many benifits or shortcomings of a particular school or program. For example, for MSU, I'm part of the 8-year/BS/MD program I mentioned, and the only reference to it in the MSU application is a small leaflet attached to one of the pages of the application, about 3 inches wide and as long as the other pages of the application booklet.
4. Be on time for everything and watch out for deadlines! Punctuality counts everywhere, such as placement test, SATs, interviews. MSU does not require one unless you want admission into a special program, such as my program. In my case, I had to attend 2 official interviews and about 3 mock interviews. I also had to apply by Dec. 15, whereas most MSU students had to apply by march 1.
I think that pretty much it. Wish you good luck. I can'r garantee you'll like MSU or that you'll get accepted, but I'm just telling you that I do. It's up to you to make up your mind. Peace.

For film, there is an interview you have to do. If you are a transfer, please keep in mind that you will have to stay more than 2 years.
In my opinion, look elsewhere. Montclair State is very unprofessional and angering. It?ll save you a lot of stress and tears.
Good luck!
