To get into my university, I had to take the SAT a few times, I ended up getting my score to 1470 (The SAT average for my year at Tandon was around 1480). I was involved with lots of clubs, overall if you want to go to NYU in general, you really need to be well-rounded. I have lots of experience in the study of history so that was a huge talking point on my application as well. I'd recommend using your essay to talk a lot about your future transition into NYU, and maybe also talk about the resources which would be available to you upon going there.

NYU Tandon is not hard to get into, justMay 28 2019Computer Science
NYU Tandon is not hard to get into, just judging by my peers. Just maintain above a 3.5 in high school, do some interesting extracurriculars, get a good SAT, and if you do Early Decision, you're basically guaranteed a spot.
SAT: 1500 Female
It's competitiveDec 03 2017Other
It's competitive. Take AP/HONORS and make A's, do well on ACT. If your parents have money$$$$, that helps. NYU will like you more. Although I do give them some credit for admitting students from diverse backgrounds.
ACT: 31 Male
I am in Tisch for Cinema StudiesFeb 03 2015Telecommunications
I am in Tisch for Cinema Studies. I want to be in the business, but not actually make film, so this department was a perfect fit. My GPA was 5.5/5.0 (because of AP classes, etc. so the GPA was great). ACT was 27, not too great. For Tisch, you have to do some artistic work, in addition to the essay, so there is a lot to consider. ALSO: remember that each school within NYU has a different acceptance rate. AKA: Tisch accepts 12-15% of their applicants, and that goes lower depending on which department you are in (lots of drama kids, fewer film kids). CAS, Steinhardt, etc. are about 30%, the usual NYU rate. Your essays are important. They value you even more if you are somewhat cultural, has an ambition to travel the world, speak different languages- actually, they love all that. Just be smart on coming here, because it is competitive but you will be so ready for the real world in 4 years. While your friends are working as waiters, you will have an internship. And in 10 years, you will have a great job. NYU is a name to have on your resume, and it will impress, trust me.
ACT: 27 Female
Keep your grades up, at least a 3May 27 2014Neuroscience/Cognitive Science
Keep your grades up, at least a 3.5 to get into the more academically-centered schools (CAS and Stern), take a few AP's if your school offers them, do extra-curriculars, etc. Gallatin, Steinhardt, and LSP are really not that hard to get into. CAS and Stern require better applicants as they are better schools, and Tisch applicants, well, good luck. Have good test scores, and on your application to NYU, make sure that your supplemental essays are well-written. This is one of the main ways NYU determines your level of interest in their school, so pay a lot of attention to these extra essays. Other than that, it's around a 30% acceptance rate so it's really not *that* difficult to get into.
