I got decent grades in high school and maybe slightly above average on the SAT's. I did a ton of extracurricular activities and volunteer work so that may have helped too!

I wasn't very active in HS and never really did any clubs or sports but I was gladly accepted by RIT. RIT (especially recently) has been lax in their acceptance of students. When you look at the drop out rate freshman year you cant blame it entirely on the environment because RIT does have some very tough programs and they will accept almost everyone and will let the system work out the ones who shouldn't make it. This is probably to get more money but I am very happy with my choice of college. RIT has always been a industry driven school and they understand that not all students were able to do well in HS due to various reasons.

Have strong SAT and overall good grades. A technology background and extracurricular activities can help.

If you have OK SAT scores with an aboveAug 23 2006Computer Science
If you have OK SAT scores with an above average HS GPA, a little extracurriculurs, and a lot of potential, then chances are you can get in. Average HS GPA with a very good SAT score will do the same. First year will test your ability to keep up with the acadmeic schedule, but the second year will really test your ability to keep up with a significantly larger workload per class (it was like that for me, anyway).

If you find yourself struggling to get the work done throughout the quarter, you're ahead of the game because if you're not struggling throughout the quarter, you're probably not trying as hard as you can to get an above average grade. From my experience, those who struggle only during the last 2 weeks of the quarter and finals week are the ones who usually end up with C's, D's, and F's.
