When transfer courses are rejected, and they will be.
Go to https://www.tccns.org/
If you are transferring from college in Texas then you can check for yourself. The website is easy to use. If tccns.org shows that you course should transfer and admissions staff tell you that it does not, and that the tccns.org website is not the correct website; tell them they are wrong. If it is on the tccns.org website, then you are not supposed to even fill out a petition form.
If they still reject it, remind them that refusal to acknowledge tccns coursework can result in loss of funding from the state of Texas. Because as far as the state of Texas is concerned they already paid for it once. You can use google to find the actual regulations for Texas if you need to. I had to show them the actual regulation before they acknowledged at four classes.

If you are a minority it should not be difficult at all, UH loves being diverse.

Honors:

They really care about your Essay. Scores/Transcript are important, but essay and resume are equally important. Average SAT is 1300+ (out of 1600). Take the application seriously.

UH:

They've made things more competitive. Apply before Dec.1 to be considered for Scholarships. Don't make the mistake of applying after Dec.1. After Dec. 1 only Top 10% get automatically accepted-everyone else is individually reviewed. Engineering, Business, and Architecture School admissions are more competitive (they require more from you).

High School Students:

Preferred: 3.5+/4.0
Ok: 3.0+/4.0
Considered: 2.5-2.99/4.0
Far fetch: lower than a 2.5

SAT/ACT:
Preferred: 1200+ (M+V)/ 26+
Ok: 1000-1200 (M+V)/ 22-26
Far Fetch: lower than 1000 (M+V)/ lower than 21
Subject Tests considered, writing not shown to be important yet.

No Essay, but if you fall into the "far fetch" pool-send one anyways.

Resume:
Crazy amounts of leadership/awards: Exceeded Expectations
Strong Participation: Preferred
Little Activity: Ok, if automatic qualifications are met
No activity: Far fetch (if automatic qualifications are NOT met)

Ranks:
Preferred: Top 10%
Ok: Top 20%
Considered: Top 50%
Far Fetch: Less than that

**Make sure to check the online automatic admissions qualifications. A lot of this is dependent on that.

Admissions Stats:
Acceptance Rate: 56%, getting lower every year (two years ago-64%)
Top 10%: ⅓ of entering class
ACT: 26 SAT: 1800 Male

When I applied to UH, they didn't really requireNov 23 2013Biology
When I applied to UH, they didn't really require an application essay, and my test scores were higher than the average. The only advice I can offer is that you apply early, and don't underestimate the people who are looking at your application (I know people who got rejected from this school because of that).
