Apply and have some money to pay, if you want to go this particular region of Florida check out USF and Eckerds both great schools, cheaper, and a lot more tolerable. Also no football team and not much school spirit.

I had about a 3.0 GPA but an ACT score of 27 (with some work experience, a few extracurricular activities, and some volunteering to put on the application). I forget exactly how or why I started receiving emails from them, but somehow I expressed interest somewhere and they (by email) offered me the "Spartan fast track" application, in which the application fee, the essay, and the letter of recommendation was waived and made applying (online) very easy. I applied very early (September) and was accepted pretty early. I don't think they're a university who will take anyone within reason, but if you have a good GPA or good exam grades it shouldn't be too hard to get in.

I like the fact that UT doesn't base your acceptance on just your SAT or ACT test scores. They look at your high school GPA, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. I had less than stellar test scores but dedicated a lot of time volunteering and working while in high school and that was taken into account.

I had a good high school GPA, a decent class rank, and was very involved in extracurricular activities. My test scores were above average but far less than stellar. I wrote a really effective essay, methinks. Not that I kid myself into thinking any of the above really made that much of a difference.
Essentailly, you need to have air in your lungs and a beat in your heart to be admited to this University.
