If you come to RIT, I hope you like red brick. _EVERY_ building on the RIT campus is built out of the same red brick. I'm a gay student who is "out of the closet" and RIT feels safe to me, both as a gay student and a student in general. Everyone's open-minded here-the school is strongly for gay-partners-having-equal-rights. For the most part, the school is good. The dorms are small, but well-maintained and nothing looks old/dirty. The meal plans are a pain though-especially the freshman ones. RIT makes a big deal out of appartment-housing for upperclassman-this year, only about 1/2 the people that wanted appartments got them, FYI. Overall, RIT is a good school, though rather expensive. Additionally, I question their policies and classes at times, but don't feel I'm worse off here than elsewhere. One important note-RIT is the NTID-basically, that means that there's a lot of deaf students around. This isn't necessarily bad, but if you don't know ASL, at times you will feel left out watching 2 deaf people have a conversation
