I am extremely happy at Georgetown. Like any school, it has alot of positive and negative aspects, but it is generally fabulous. The classes are very stimulating (especially in Government, which the school is internationally known for), the professors are both brilliant and approachable, and generally the grading system is quite fair. Socially, the school is great, though it may not be for everyone. I have found that while alot of people have a snobby air about them, most are actually quite friendly and down to earth if you get to know them. If Gtown people cared less about appearences, the school would be much more laid back. While you can expect to find alot of people who let their family's money get to their head, oftentimes the wealthiest people are the most down to earth and humble, and are usually quite approachable. Also, parties here can be great if you're among friends, but don't expect to have fun if you get all dressed up to just go stand around a keg talking to the only four people you know at a party. Parties are not places to meet people here, they are places chill with people you already know. The school has a great intellectual environment. Nearly everyone is politically active or at least politically aware, and I have gotten into many late night philosophical debates with my friends over a few glasses of wine. ftentimes, however, gtown students think that they are more intellectual than they really are, especially in the School of Foregin Service. Nothing is more frustrating than watching an freshman SFS student go at it with a professor who knows what she is talking about. There are alot of kids here who think that proving a professor wrong makes them look good, and considering the quality of the professors here, these students could use a little more humility. A few things to consider- it is not always easy to get into DC. DC is great, and has tons to offer, but Gtown transportation into the city can be lacking, and while cabs are always accessible, they can be expensive. Also, Gtown is great for liberal arts, especially Government. If you are science oriented, there are schools with better resources and facilities. Finally, like all schools, Gtown gives back what you put into it. Don't expect to have the time of your life sitting in your dorm room watching Family Guy by yourself. If you get involved, this can be everything you wanted college to be.
