George Washington University was one of the best things that ever happened to me as a young adult. The University provided me the backdrop to develop into a solid individual. I met some amazing individuals who allowed me to carve out a small niche at the school. When I was looking at colleges I wanted a big city and place for me to explore - not one where someone babysat me. I had independence, but have to admit one professor and a couple of staff members took me under their wings and I definately had a strong safety net. GW students are diverse in backgrounds and interests. When I was there, I found a lot of them to be searching for who they were too and thus came across as a bit snotty, but I found some of my closest friends right next door in my res hall. My coursework was interesting and my friends where a great mix of quirky intellectual and regular people...some nights we would stay out dancing till the sun came up and other nights we would stay in a read poetry and talk about political philosophy. I think if you are narrow minded or have no initiative GW is not the place for you. GW is a place where you get to be an adult really fast - where being independent is expected and that friends although harder to find will stick with you forever. And to be honest - DC is an excellent college town. Oh and by the way I never had an internship - didn't want an internship and think I did just fine.
