If you absolutely love to study classical literature, philosophy, and the arts, then by all means, there is no better place than Columbia. If that is not the case, you might want to look elsewhere. Before deciding whether to even apply to Columbia you should read about our Core Curriculum. Engineers especially. Also, just know that these so-called "prestigious" universities don't usually care much about undergrads. The most acclaimed professors here are likely to devote themselves to research or teaching grad school courses, because that's how schools like Columbia maintain their prestige. Most of the Core classes here are taught by TAs. That said, the instructor to student ratio is excellent if you are not an engineer.
