I'm more than a few years out of the 'Tute, now thinking about where my son will go to college. My experiences may be way out of date, although I see some comments that could have been written in 1973- when the male/female ratio was 99 to 1. When I was at RPI I hated Troy, I hated the lack of a social life, hated the ugly buildings, hated the useless library in the old chapen and hated the workload. A couple years later, I didn't hate the RPI degree. That degree still gets attention today. Four years in Troy were an investment that felt like a sentance. But like other investments, you have to judge them when they mature. If you're still at RPI, I assert that your judgement is probably premature. That doesn't mean RPI is a school without faults. It certainly isn't right for everyone. So make an informed choice. I'll close with two takeaways. One, at RPI I really did learn how to learn. Two, after RPI I realized that most of the people I would work with, and compete against, we not as smart as the people I went to school with at RPI. It was a good invesment, for me.
