Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
Ok, what you get out of NC State is totally dependent on what your preconceived notions of the world are. I feel totally safe on this campus, but I know alot of people who do not. Basically, you have to get that idea out of your head that homeless people (who are abundant on the main street of campus) are harmless. However, most people here are the type who fear the homeless, gay people, liberals, and the like. If you fear those things, youll blend right in. If you are like me, and embrace those things, then you will have to do some searching for your friends. I did, and I found a great group of people through extracurriculars. Dont come here wanting to major in the humanities from the start. Youll soon find that most of the people in your major are only there b/c they failed out of engineering and feld obligated to stay in school and get a degree. Unfortunately, a degree in the humanities from State isnt exactly looked up at, which is unfortunate, because the faculty isnt too bad. I came in to do math and eventually downgraded to math education. The math dept. is very good, as are most sciences. WHATEVER YOU DO, DONT LIVE IN SULLIVAN. I lived there freshman year and my roommate got pheumonia from some kind of microorganism living in the AC. The place is filthy and needs to be detoxified before anyone lives there again. The biggest dissapointment: Hillsborough Street. It has the potential to be a great college street, but thanks to city ordnances (inacted by the rich bitches living in the nearby neighborhood) it basically looks like skid row. Businesses close down daily. The one bright spot is Mitches, which is a great place to grab a meal and a beer with a group of friends. This school needs to be more selective about who it lets in. It would be up there with other great engineering and science schools if they kept out all the frat boys who come to drink and get a shoddy business degree and the girls who come to get a communications degree and an STD. Come here if you want a great education in the sciences and engineering.
