Northwestern helped me immensely. As a reporter I was well prepared, with a broad liberal arts base and specific practical skills needed for the job. As a man it helped me learn to think, broadly and deeply, and gave me a cultural and social refinement I would not otherwise have had. As a future grad student, it set a high standard that made my advanced studies seem easy in comparison. Marching Band helped me be comfortable speaking in front of crowds, which I now do every day. Even more than the teachers, the high caliber of the the other students helped me learn and grow.
