To the poster below, it does not matter where you go for Medical Technician studies as the courses are available everywhere. You clearly didn't do enough homework to do well in the pre-med classes (girls, Geneseo is a tough school, but if you study you will do well), which are the same as the medical technican studies. Also, i wonder why you are an alumnus of the year 1976 which was over 29 years ago... Anyways, Geneseo is great. The academics are top-notch and I'll be going to SUNY Buffalo Medical College (early admission program [SUNY Gen. is really good for connections]), through a special program which will let me enter without taking the MCATs. Geneseo is beautiful, the campus is situated in a vallley and the surrounding area is very similar to Colgate University. I almost went to Colgate, but why should I when Geneseo is exactly the same academically, extracurricularly, and socially. If i went to Colgate, i would've ended up in debt 50,000 dollars (bad package), with an equal financial package, but at Geneseo I will be debt-free (only 13k a year for me). Extracurricularly, there's a lot to do on campus. I'm a bio major, and there is construction going on to build a new bio/chem building (new state of the art labs/machines/etc), which will be open next summer (summer of 2006). The academics here are tough. Don't let people misguide you that SUNY schools are easy. This is probably the hardest SUNY school to do well in as it is nationally known as a public ivy. Also, many people seem to think that a SUNY Geneseo education is unknown and doesn't give connections into grad. school. This is completely untrue, in the real world, most people haven't heard of Geneseo (but really who has heard of most schools in the country), HOWEVER, Geneseo is well-known in the academia, and is known for developing well-rounded students with extremely good work ethic. Why? We recently got several of our students into top 20 schools including Cornell, Dartmouth, and Johns Hopkins for grad. schools. There are two sides of geneseo (dorm wise, but everything is situtated around the center), south side and north side. Pick south side if you want to study hard and focus more on studies. Pick north side if you want to have more fun and drink alcohol. I would suggest avoiding the all-freshmen dorm as there is a lot of immature kids who drink alcohol all the time. As a result, pick a balance, find a dorm that is quiet, and when you want to party just walk over to the dorm with parties. Not a big deal. As a bio major, research and volunteeer work are important. Rochester is only 30 minuets away and RIT is 15 minetus away. Geneseo has on-campus research, and the other schools give us plenty of research work to do (we get publicized). We have an EMT squad, several doctors in the area that will gladly let you shadow them. And a little tip to my pre-professional aspirees. There is a pre-dental program at SUNY Buffalo Dentistry which is 3 years at Geneseo and 4 years at buffalo dentistry college. You don't need to take the DATs and after the 3rd you get in without any worries. There is also a combined 3+4 program in optometry, and one in 3+4 pre-vet as well. Finally, we have a Geneseo-DO program where after 3 years yoiu transfer to NYCOM med. school without taking the MCATs. ONLY Geneseo offers all of this. Well i'll be logging off now as i need to study some more. If you have any questions im me at
