Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
Let's face it-- I didn't get into LA, I didn't get into Berkeley or San Diego. Okay, great. So here I am with the choices of UCI, UCSB and UCR. I chose R because they had a business program (I changed my major later on to poli-sci and I'm happy with that choice). A few things redeeming about UCR: 1. You don't have to go through a load of hassle to change majors/double major later on. 2. Classes aren't as interesting as Berkeley or LA perse (if we look at class descriptions) but they're still ones that are just as absorbing albeit with less interesting definitions over here. 3. There are a plethora of student organizations offering something every other day. People complain about the lack of campus life but they shouldn't be talking since all they do is stay in their dorms all day. They also seem to lack the ability to notice the mounds of flyers they receive in their mail (if they bother to check) of the going-ons of that week/month/quarter. 4. The recreation programs are fun. 5. Downtown Riverside has some of the most awesome restaurants I've ever been to and some of the more beautiful pieces of architecture I've seen in Southern California. 6. Theres an arcade, a record store, a bunch of food shops, a pool place, a movie theatre (which closes a little too early), etc, etc at the University Village... a good 10 minutes walk or a 5 minute UCR bus ride from campus. 7. They do seem to give out a lot more financial aid than the other UCs. A few things unredeeming about UCR: 1. Really bad post-modern architecture. 2. Somewhat bad landscaping 3. The heat 4. Once in a while, the smog 5. The always wet grass (but thats understandable). 6. The social factor of a lot of the students/the lack of open-minded individuals. 7. The disregard that certain individuals have at late houts from 4am to 6am (but then, they're inebriated). 8. The lack of fun at these "parties" that these inebriated people come back from. 9. The fact that most 2nd years and onwards all leave campus for apartments. Which adds to the lack of the social/active factor of the campus most people complain about. 10. The cost of books, the policy of changing book editions, the cost of workbooks, and so on. 11. The difficulty of understanding certain members of faculty due to their heavily accented English. (Yet, I doubt there IS a UC WITHOUT an English as a second language Professor)
