I think that Smith taught me how to live in uncomfortable situations, it taught me how to confront the things I feel I can change for the better, it also taught me that education is about the individual and how much they want to learn. You can get through Smith doing what you're told and you can get A's but you may not learn much- just how to get A's. The true learning was in having to decide what I was willing to compromise and there are ample opportunities to be challenged. So Smith has helped me to grow as a person and I met wonderful teachers there that I will be in touch with for the rest of my life. But it is a bubble- it is isolated. I consider myself a liberal democrat and even I thought that the general atmosphere was at times so idealistic that it bordered on stupid. I honestly could have gotten a similar challenge at a school like Oberlin or Brown with the same value for the brand name (which honestly is what most people are shopping for in the overall package). I would recommend aspiring applicants stress their activism, individuality, ingenuity, and show their smarts through grades and good scores although scores are not so heavily considered as with other sister schools or ivy schools. Good luck!
