I attended grad school in the School of Foreign Service (SSP), though I took a dual under/graduate course and had plenty of interaction with both the grads and the undergrads. I found the undergrads to be annoyingly snobbish and arrogant, with a strong tendency to play the know-it-all act, even though they obviously don't. By contrast, the graduate students in the SFS/SSP seemed like they were from an entirely different school. I found the grad students in my program to be regular, normal people who were often holding down a job while they were taking classes -- in other words, real people with everyday problems in the real world. People who recognize their limitations are just like everyone else's and who know that they're there to learn and eventually get a better job than the one they have now. Pretty down-to-earth. I can remember plenty of times when I and my classmates would email our papers to each other, so we could proof each other's work. I never had any feeling of competition in my program, and the courses were challenging, interesting, and usually very practical. The SFS/SSP faculty were always helpful to me, and I still keep in contact with them.
