I'll bet that there are some confused and impressionable individuals who read these reviews and allow their opinions sway like branches in the breeze, hopelessly subject to whim as you read alternating positive and negative reviews. Well, let this be the final word concerning the bitter man's 'frequently cited complaints'. Here's a shocker; UCR has less smog and is far safer than USC. Yet, without having looked, I'd be willing to bet comments regarding USC aren't not nearly as focused on these issues. Beyond that, the population density of 'crack heads' near USC is greater by far. As a matter of fact, one of the frat houses (on frat row) was shut down for distributing and likely manufacturing. If you happen see a vacant frat house on 'tha row', yup, that's the one at the corner. Gee wonder if that ever comes up? I wouldn't bet that does either. "Rollin' 20's" (gang) hood is right down the street from USC (all of the 20's numbers streets, i.e. 20th, 23rd, ect…). I'll bet that fun fact was omitted from the brochures. This is the simple truth (if you can comprehend it); Riverside as a city ranks low in the so-cal social stratosphere (caste). This is why some people are preconditioned to automatically equate Riverside with any perceivable negative attribute and why the OC and Los Angeles are conveniently not (even though their negative attributes may be far more severe). Be honest, "prestige" is what is truly on trial here and UCR does not garner the same "prestige" as USC. But in that case, someone with a higher level of prestige will always be looking down on you no matter where you are fortunate enough to go. Otherwise, UCR has more opportunity and resources per student than UCLA, partly because they are under utilized at UCR. UCR has just about all of the tangible elements any true student could need, but probably lacks in most of the intangible areas. Students at UCR are friendly. I'm saying this and I consider myself unfriendly and haven't joined any clubs, groups, or otherwise extracurricular organizations. You can study abroad anywhere worth going at top universities for a year if you have the $. You can even do an intercampus visit (for a quarter) to that other UC that turned your sorry hide down. At UCR, YOU have all the opportunity that UC's offer and YOU decide where you end up in life without pretense. Now, would anyone actually like to comment on academics?
