Date: Jan 16 2008
Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
About 2 1/2 years ago I transfered into HPU. At that time I had an Associates Degree and 19 years of military experience and had taken some classes through 2 other colleges. Getting started was relatively easy, but the small staff at the satellite office on the military base was not very knowledgeable, nor interested in me as a person. Once they got me signed up for my initial classes (translation, got my finaincial aid payments) they were reluctant to discuss transfer credit or a degree plan with me. I was told "unofficially" that with my previous degree and military experience in the field that I wanted to major in, I would most likely just need to meet the academic residency requirements (approx 10-12 classes). Officially however, they took over four months to evaluate my previous education (citing understaffing issues as the reason for delay) in the mean time I had taken four more classes with them. By the time they officially reviewed my transcripts I was told I would need to take approx 28-33 classes! Not credits, CLASSES! Needless to say I was not pleased, after much discussion I was able to lower that number to 23 classes, and use DANTES/CLEP exams for some credit, however, I have now taken 10 classes with them and the most recent meeting with their staff shows that I still need approximately 16 classes. I obviously need to take some math classes because these numbers don't add up in my favor! I get the distinct impression that all they are interested in is my money and not my degree plan. The courses I have taken have been decent, but not great and I am currently planning on switching to another school that will offer more credit for my previous education.
