first of all, i would like to clarify that there are not as many shooting as you may have heard. riverside is not that dangerous! i had a roommate who was a skinny harmless emo kid from the oc that went to denny's past midnight at least one or twice a week. he would go alone on his longboard to grab a bite to eat! he has never come back shot, bruised, cut, or scared shitless. im from a suburban city up north, and riverside isnt the slightest bit scary. i've seen female international students walk down university avenue at midnight as if they were taking a stroll to the mall! anyways, i hate to say it, but riverside is really what you make of it. if you think it will be shitty and just wait for something good to come, it ain't gonna happen. it's gonna be shitty. that was my 2nd and 3rd year. i was waiting... for nothing! wasteful college years! and i blamed ucr for it. i decided to take the initiative and meet new interesting people my 4th year and i did. i've met some awesome people that really made me forget about the last two years of hell and heat in riverside. i have no doubt in my mind that the ones that have complained about riverside on this site are the ones that go straight to their home/apt/dorm after class. trust me, i was one of them. i would go home and play my video games and bitch. the city of riverside is shitty, it's the sad truth. but thanks to its shittiness, it forces a lot of students to be creative and find fun things to do. find those people or be one of them! for those people blame their lack of success at ucr? honestly, if you can not find a job, maybe your don't have connections. right now, im in a situation with a crappy economy with an econ degree. my grades aren't stellar, but i'll tell you what, it's about connections. through connections ive been getting interviews instantly! someone would put in a word for me and BAM, the next day i would get a call or an email wanting to set up an interview. if you're planning on going to grad school, ucr is a great place to help you with that. i know countless of students who are top tier grad schools because they were active and made use of their resources. i'll tell you what, though. ucr is incredibly hot in the summer.
