There are many students at Towson who love it here and others who hate it. I fall into the category of in-state students who chose Towson because it is very cheap and close to home. I was really excited to come here because I love the Towson area (so much to do here) and was hoping to make a lot of great new friends. I have to say i was disappointed. I still can't figure out why so many people from different states (mainly New York and New Jersey) are paying out-of-state tuition for a school that is barely worth the in-state tuition I am paying now. If you are looking for a school full of well-rounded, intellectual students who talk about more than drinking, don't come here. The night life is pretty awful. When I first got here I was very open to checking out the party scene but what I found was the parties are all in run-down, cramped apartments and many of them get busted pretty fast. The parties are full of frat guys and seriously drunk college students who will spill beer on your shoes. If this doesn't sound unappealing, maybe the fact that you have to pay for a cab everywhere you go and you WILL have to pay for alcohol at parties is enough to turn you off partying at Towson. In one night I've spent up to 30 dollars and i've heard of people spending much more. This is not something a college student can afford to do every Friday and Saturday night all year. After realizing that I didn't want to waste away my savings on parties, I decided it was best to go home every weekend and I enjoy that much more. The teachers can either be really good or truly horrible. It is good to check out ratemyprofessors.com and also get reccommendation from other students when picking out classes. As said in basically all of these reviews, the parking is awful and there is basically no leeway for freshmen to have cars on campus unless you are a commuter. Food is good as long as you know the right places to go, avoid all you can eat places at all cost, they may seem appetizing but after eating there for more than a few days you will gain a stomach ache and a few pounds at that. The school is not that dangerous, just travel in groups at night, during the day there's really nothing to worry about. Security is very high on campus. The faculty does their best to be resourceful and helpful but they could probably improve, as most school could. Towson is all about what kind of person you are. There are plenty of students who really enjoy Towson but those are the students who don't care about the academics and only want to party. If you want to be with sensible, smart and kind students, I wouldn't suggest attenting Towson University. ps: the sports teams suck.
