I came in as a transfer student (I wanted to move closer to home in DC) and liked it overall, however the physical sciences department is extremely lacking (I was a Chemistry major). I probably would have received a better science education from a state school at a much lower cost than at Georgetown. I think they might be working on this with their new science center being built but when I was there, everything was so outdated. I am in a PhD program now at Stanford and I'm really envious of the research opportunities that the undergrads get here compared to what I had at Georgetown. Georgetown is just very pre-professional and non-academic (I never really heard any deep, philosophical conversations) The students there were great. They were all very comfortable with themselves, willing to help you, and glad to be there. The teachers are also very friendly and approachable (I still keep in contact with my old adviser). There was always something to do on the weekends in DC. Most people still think it is impressive that I went to Georgetown, but I expect its reputation won't last for long unless it re-evaluates its academic programs.
