Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
This comment is orientated towards people with some college experience, and have been to universities where everything is very balanced-but it may be good for freshman as well. Transfered here this year from a school that was too expensive. You know, the place isn't bad at all but here are the things that really piss me off: 1. I'm a biology major and I really enjoy it, but every kid in it wants to go on to med school. Thats it. They don't give a shit about what they are learning, and they are all over competitive and talk about their internships ext. I do not care at all. We go to school to learn, I don't care about what you want to do unless you are my friend. Seriously, maybe 5% of the kids are in it for education, and the others...well they are living on dreams that won't come true because-the classes are insanely hard unless you have an aptitude for biology and a lot of kids fail out. A ton of people at the end of this year state the following response who failed out: "Oh yeah...I'm switching to [enter major]...but I can still take the MCAT!". Seriously, shut the fuck up. I can't emphasize how much this gets on my nerves EVERY DAY. So if you think you are going to make friends who are normal in that major, good luck. You will talking about this summer's plans of taking the MCAT, shadowing some doctor, and avoiding living your life. Some people need to realize you only live once, and stop acting like they are 30 years old already-especially when their is no guarentee that things will work out as you plan. By the way, every incoming freshman is a bio major, if your coming here don't think your going to be special. 2. The kids...are lame. Lots of really bright people who were super awesome in high school with their A+'s and AP classes. Well guess what, you forgot how to interact in a social fashion. God, their are so many awkward moments, and just "dumb" kids everywhere. Of course, you do have diversity in personalities but this is the overwhelming population of the freshman class. 3. The school has two phases. "Before the kid died" and "after the kid died". I expected to come into a school that I heard about in the "before the kid died" phase. WRONG. This place fucking sucks on the weekends. Unless your in greek life, you can't do shit-unless you go to some shitty party on court street that just fucking sucks. Expect your RAs to knock on your door when you open soda cans, and University Police to be ready to invade Poland if they see anything semi-illegal. And by the way, if you decide to go greek, your grades will suffer. The end result-if your a kid like me who just wants to go out on the weekends and party once in a while, this is not the place for you. You have to pay circa $300 a semester in order to live that life style. There is another option, however. You can always get smashed, go to a bar called the IB, pay five dollars, dance with some random girls if you are sexually attractive, and go home. Thats it really. I ask kids what they are doing on the weekends and its always either "going home" or "going to the IB". In they end, if your only serious about your education...sure go here. If all you care about is reading books, spending time in the library working every day then this is the place for you. I had a friend who went here about 3 years ago, and the motto was always "work hard-play hard". Now...its just work. All work and no play makes me a dull boy personally. In the end- ITS CHEAP Goodbye and goodluck.
